10 Things I would Rather Do Than Read (or Watch) 50 Shades of Grey

I make no bones about the fact that I hate 50 Shades of Grey. I hate what it says about women, our culture, and literature. I just can't justify watching a woman being beaten and demoralized when thousands of women around the globe have to suffer this way against their will.

So, before I go off further on a soapbox moment, I will share 10 Things I Would Rather Do Than Read (or Watch) 50 Shades of Grey.

1. Give a public speech.

2. Read an actually good, romantic story.
    -One which explores a multiverse
-Or one that reaches across the tracks

3. Eat a jalapeno

6. Wear a swimsuit in public. In the winter.

7. Eat seafood. BLECH!

8. Clean the entire bathroom. With a toothbrush.

9. Change a poopy diaper.

What would you add to this list??

  1. I absolutely understand your, let's call it dislike, for 50SoG. The book itself was utterly atrocious in the way that it portrayed women, the BDSM community, abusive victims and life in general. I was very conflicted about whether or not I wanted to see it because I didn't want to contribute to its success and yet felt unfair judging the work of Sam Taylor-Johnson (the director) without seeing it myself. She definitely improved upon the story by taking out many of the abusive and ridiculous aspects of the story, revealing E.L. James book for exactly what it is, an empty, vapid and badly-written narrative. After having seen it I definitely recommend you do any of the things on your list rather than seeing the film!

  2. Can't say I've read or plan to read/watch this one, though I've read some highly entertaining reviews of it on Goodreads. I love jalapenos and sushi! :D

  3. Let me point out that I am very Minnesotan :) My taste buds have evolved from meat and potatoes, but I still can't do spicy!
