This Christmas, a tragic loss at Fort Laramie ushers in hope and healing. When a young mother dies after giving birth at Fort Laramie, Emmie Croftner is shaken by the death of her dear friend--and reminded of the dangers of childbirth. She won't be able to hide her own pregnancy much longer. She's dreading the day that Isaac Liddle, the handsome soldier she adores, discovers her secret. Then the young infant's father offers a solution: Emmie should marry him so the child can have a family. With the Sioux Wars threatening soldier and civilian alike, a ready-made family could be the answer to Emmie's prayers for safety. But at what cost to her heart--and Isaac's?

My Thoughts:
Note: As the sixth book in a series, please proceed knowing that this review will contain spoilers for all previous books.

And here we are: the end of the 'Journey of the Heart' series. I've been reading this series one book a month for the past six months. Each book has been so light and quick that it hasn't really been a burden or time consuming in anyway.

To recap, at the end of book five Isaac throws out a proposal to Emmie who joyfully accepts. He still doesn't know her dark secret. And now to top it all off, a promise Emmie once made to a desperate friend is coming back to haunt her. Her happily ever after with Isaac is in jeopardy. Will Emmie have to endure a loveless marriage just to keep her word?

Coble ends her series amidst Indian skirmishes, death, and new life. But if I may be so bold as to add, how could Coble give us anything other than a happy ending with a series like this? I compare this whole series to a Hallmark movie. We always know it is going to have a happy ending and we may guess a lot of the plot, but we still watch. We watch in spite of, or perhaps because of, knowing how it will end.

Book six may end how we expect but it gives us some fun action along the way. 3 stars. I could recommend reading this as a series installment like I did OR buying all six books in one big omnibus. Worth some summertime reading either way :)
